Who
doesn't love the Super Mario Bros games? Super Mario World
was my favorite of the series, and what better way to
fondly remember a video game than with a cartoon show?
This
set of two DVDs collects the third season of Captain
N: The Game Master and the only season of Super
Mario World. While certainly not highbrow entertainment,
the episodes do have their occasional charms. Kevin was
an ordinary person who got sucked into Gameworld, where
he uses his Nintendo Zapper and Nintendo control pad belt
buckle to help various residents. Mario and Luigi try
and foil King Koopa's various efforts to take over Dionsaur
Land.
The
visuals are colorful if not terribly crisp; the video
does not appear to have been remastered, but it is not
to the show's detriment. While no longer serving their
original purpose of hooking kids on Nintendo products,
the shows do have high nostalgic value, but probably not
much replay beyond that.
Highlights:
Liberal use of Super Mario World game sound effects and
themes throughout the show. Giving me a strong desire
for Saturday mornings and cereal and milk. Simon Belmont's
hair.
