David Reivers - January 12, 2007
Here are some of the highlights from the Interview.
Raul: David nice to see
you here today.
David Reivers: Thank
you!
Raul: You sound just
like Corbin, it’s hysterical.
David Reivers: People
say we walk alike, we talk alike, we smile alike umm…
Raul: You don’t
have the same hair…
David Reivers: Except
for the hair. Haha, everything except the hair. Good thing
otherwise they’ll think we’re twins. The thing
about Corbin and one of the things I’m most proud
of is his work ethic as an actor. He wants to be compared
to the best. He wants to be the Johnny Depps, the Denzel
Washingtons and I think with that said he follows what
they do in regards to preparing for a role and then he
takes every role he prepares for seriously. He works hard
at it and I think that’s a reflection of what you
saw in High School Musical where we worked in our backyard
for days and then when he got up there he worked really
hard carrying the basketball around and it was a choice
that he made, it was great.
Raul: Now we also told
me for this movie he really had to get his boxing done.
David Reivers: Yes, for
this movie he had to train for boxing and double dutch.
The first couple of weeks here in LA he trained for six
weeks altogether before the movie so we had three weeks
of training here with a boxing trainer called Baby Doll
Riley who is a woman boxer who is just phenomenal. She
would work him, he would leaving those training practices
just drenched but he would be ready to go the next time,
he’d show up. And again, it was one of those things
he knew what he had to do to make his body look like what
he needed for the role and what he’d wanted to look
like on camera.
Raul: And in the movie,
ironically you play his dad. How'd that happen…
it was a stretch?
David Reivers: It was
a stretch. No again, when I tell people this I had the
opportunity with not only my son, but also one of the
best young professionals in the business. So when Ron
said, together I trust him wholeheartedly because I know
what he’s capable and I know what he can do and
with that said we brought, there’s so much more
brought to each scene and we had a really good time working
together.
