Demi Lovato - August 30, 2008
Tommy: Hey it's Tommy2 and joining us today from The Burning Up Tour we have none other than Demi Lovato. Demi how's it going?
Demi Lovato: It's going pretty good how about you?
Tommy: Really good. Now did you have a great birthday?
Demi Lovato: Yes I did, it was amazing!
Tommy: Now that your 16 about how long until you're going to be cruising the streets and driving.
Demi Lovato: Umm... actually I haven't gotten my license still. So, it'll probably be another year or something.
Tommy: There's a lot of things on the plate right now.
Demi Lovato: Totally, I never thought I'd be to busy to get my license.
Tommy: Just over a year ago you wrapped up shooting the film Camp Rock. Were you prepared for what was about to happen with your career?
Demi Lovato: I don't really think so but then again nothing has really changed other than being super busy.
Tommy2: On September 23rd you'll be releasing your debut album Don't Forget. Could you tell us what inspired you for the name of that album>
Demi Lovato: Yeah, it's a song I wrote with the Jonas Brothers called Don't Forget and it was about a personal experience that happened where I was really in to somebody and they basically walked away. I guess it's how I got inspired for the album title and it kind fit my coming out CD called Demi Lovato and we wanted it to be like don't forget it. So that's pretty much how we got the name.
Tommy: And you've got some other tracks on there that were co-written and produced by the Jonas Brothers. Kevin and Nick told me they were really excited about being part of that. Tell us more about those songs
Demi Lovato: Yes, we wrote those songs together on tour. I went to go visit them for maybe two weeks on tour and we basically just wrote and we had so much fun whenever we wrote together. We kind of had the idea that maybe they could co-produce cause they knew my sound pretty well. But it's a matter of having someone help you put it on a CD. So they helped me a lot with that and had a lot of great ideas and we had a blast together the entire time.
Tommy: So that was like back in February then?
Demi Lovato: Yes!
Tommy: Not only did you get to work with those guys writing songs but now you're actually currently on the road with them. Has this summer been one you'll never forget?
Demi Lovato: Totally, I mean this has been the most crazy fun insane experience I've ever had in my life and it keeps getting better every day. I was looking the other day at the calendar and I was like oh my gosh we only have two weeks left and I've been on tour since June I don't know how I'm going to switch back into normal life. It's been so much fun.
Tommy: Yeah, I gotta admit I caught the show back in July and was really surprised how well you handled such a large crowd with not having that many shows under your belt.
Demi Lovato: Oh thank you.Yeah it was pretty crazy. I was so nervous the first time I ever went in front of a large crowd in Toronto. I was so nervous and I was crying and Selena (Gomez) was there, my best friend and she was like "are you sure you're not nervous" and I was like "no, no, no - I've got it" and then all of a sudden I was like "now I'm really nervous and I don't know what to do, I'm scared" and she was like "oh my gosh, you've got to pull it together you've got it, so don't worry about it." So that was pretty funny.
Tommy: And of course then they said you're on now and you had no time to think about it.
Demi Lovato: Right, and it's gotten so comfortable too. I'm not so nervous every time cause I do it almost every day.
Tommy: As far as music goes who are some of your favorites?
Demi Lovato: My all time favorite band is Paramore and she's basically one of the reasons I was inspired... umm, well Hayley Williams from Paramore was one of the basic reasons I wanted to go rock. I saw the band live and they're great together and they write incredible music and also I like a lot of older bands. I like Motley Crue a lot and who else, I've got a lot of favorite bands but those are pretty much the main ones.
Tommy: Now interesting thing, I don't know if you knew but you just mentioned Motley Crue there and you're actually going to have a connection with Motley Crue now because you're going to be touring with The Veronicas and Vikk Foxx who's the drummer in the band, played in Vince Neil's band.
Demi Lovato: Oh wow, I didn't know that! I also got for my birthday somebody put together a shout out video and Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx wished me happy birthday. And I cried... I was like "oh my gosh this is the coolest thing ever"! It was incredible.
Tommy: Now next month you begin shooting the new Disney Channel show Welcome to Mollywood. Are you anxious to get that thing going?
Demi Lovato: I'm totally anxious to get that going. It's a really funny show and I miss acting while I'm on tour and like when we shot the music video I was like "I miss being on set." But, I love acting and I can't wait to get started big time.
Tommy: As far as your personality in that show what's it gonna be like? Is it gonna be more over-the-top you or what?
Demi Lovato: Well I play a girl from Wisconsin and she's really naive to the whole Hollywood scene and acting and all of that. She gets basically is this girl that got the opportunity to be on her favorite television show. So she's pretty cooky and funny and quirky but ya know very easily. But at the same time she kinda sticks out like a sore thumb. So I think she'll be a little over the top but I don't think it will be to crazy.
Tommy: I also see you'll still be playing shows now and then cause they just added you to the roster at Fresno Fair in October.
Demi Lovato: Yes, I will be doing shows on the weekend while I'll be shooting the show.
Tommy: So working non-stop.
Demi Lovato: Haha, pretty much!
Tommy: Well Demi, thanks for checking in today.
Demi Lovato: Thank you, you too. It was good to talk to you again.
