Corbin Bleu - September 14, 2007
Tommy: Corbin, how are you doing today?
Corbin: I'm doing pretty good, you?
Tommy: Congrats, on your album "The Other Side" it actually just passed one hundred thousand in sales last week.
Corbin: It finally passed? Right on! Thank You! Thats awesome.
Tommy: How does it feel to have that out there and also to be touring with it?
Corbin: It's absolutely wonderful. Also, I think it's really gone up since touring actually. Just to go out and show the people what the album is about. It's about partying and dancing and just having a good time.
Tommy: It sounds like your really bringing it because every time I read about it, every city you've been to, they can't seem to talk about your dancing enough.
Corbin: Thank you so much man, thank you so much. I'm glad its making an impact.
Tommy: The last two years have probably been a blur with High School Musical. Aside from the production of High School Musical, do you think the part that made it special had anything to do with the cast?
Corbin: The cast of course! I think the first day we all met each other, the connection between us was through the roof. We really had a great chemistry together. Just to be part of a musical movie, especially an original musical movie, all of us were just really excited to be apart of that so anytime you do something for the first time that you're really excited about everyone really brings something to the table. So, yeah, it really had to do with the magic of the cast. Were still really close, we still hang out all the time, and were still really good friends.
Tommy: It seems when your all not even together you still know where you are because actually last Sunday on the Teen Choice Awards Vanessa was talking and all of a sudden Monique jumps in and says 'Hey Corbin and Ashley aren't here but they wanted to be here.'
Corbin: I absolutely love her for that. That was so sweet of her. I actually saw that and she's a doll. Just the fact that she brought us there, we were there in spirit. We would have loved to be there but I was actually doing a show that day, but just to know that we are still included in the group and everybody truly comes together. We all miss each other.
Tommy: I read some stories about you and Monique on the production of High School Musical where you two actually got involved in helping her overcome here fear of water. What was that about?
Corbin: Yeah, we did. It was during the second movie, which was incredible. She doesn't swim, well she does now. But before the movie, she didn't know how to swim, and we all had to jump in the pool at the end of the number and she's freaking out so the entire time, we didn't shoot that until the end of the entire shoot, but the entire time we were there she was taking swim lessons. I was the one who jumped in with her the first time she ever jumped into open water. I held her hand, we jumped in and she was very very scared, you could see she was kind of crying but you couldn't tell because it was just water dripping down her face but we just treaded the water, we made it out together and she just gave me a big hug and thanked me. Its incredible for her because it just shows what a brave person she is. To jump in an open pool of water when you don't really know how to swim, thats a major feat to accomplish. And also to just do it for the movie, also shows her passion for her work.
Tommy: Last time we talked was two years ago and things were just happening with High School Musical. You were actually you had just finished doing the pilot and it hadn't even aired yet for Hannah Montana. What was it like to be apart of something like that that took off?
Corbin: Huge! Absolutely incredible. I look back now and I actually shot Hannah Montana before I shot High School Musical. Hannah Montana has really grown, you can see in the actors how much they've grown. I love watching the show, I really do. Miley's doing a great job, she's a funny little actress there.. I love it! I talk with them every once in a while and I still feel like I'm apart of their group. It's really really cool. Hopefully I can go back sometime and do another episode of the show.
Tommy: Last time we talked you made another lasting impression on me. You said "God is the foundation for everything you do." Has that helped you with everything you've done the last few years?
Corbin: That IS the reason everything has happened the past two years. I've truly been through some times in this whole process that I almost couldn't do it. It's a lot of pressure and a lot of negativity that's thrown our way. I just know that God takes care of everything for me. I just follow the path that he wants me to take, and I just work to get there.
Tommy: For people who want to get to know you, you have a book out called "Up Close". Can you tell us about it? I actually loved it, its like a magazine but a book. You have chapters but you have tons of great pictures.
Corbin: That was what we really wanted to show, was the pictures. I feel like pictures really capture so many moments. I have pictures from when I first started working when I was two years old, I have pictures of my family, pictures of all the different people I've worked with. I just wanted with the book to show the whole process, what's been going on, and what I truly am about which is work and family; everything that has been such a foundation for me. I like to go and look at it sometimes to just look at the pictures because it brings back great memories sometimes.
