Here’s a little something I think you’re gonna love! Australian act, Tonight Alive will be releasing What Are You So Scared Of? on February 14th. I’ve heard this female fronted pop-punk/rock band will be heading to the U.S. this spring and I have a very good feeling they’re going to make quite a splash. Check out their new single, Breaking And Entering on VEVO. Oh yeah, crank it up!

ABC News recently produced a video segment entitled, Tween-Age Dreams, where they interview ‘the man’, Radio Disney DJ, Ernie D. In it he says a handful of things that are quite interesting when you deconstruct them.

Part 1

When asked about the X factor that makes young stars rise to the top he gives a decent answer “it’s more of… what unique does that artist have to offer. What thing that’s unique does that artist have to offer.” Following up that response, he gives examples by naming the unique things several artists offer:

1. Shealeigh – Voice (sing)
2. New Direction – Good looking guys who can really sing.
3. Coco Jones – it’s her ability to sing, rap, dance and act.

After giving those example he goes on to say “there’s always something different” despite the fact that he clearly stated the one unique thing they all do was the same thing – sing. Seriously, this is news? Tomorrow, I’ll have Part 2.

Saturday night, the cast of Jessie got together to celebrate Karan Brar’s 13th Birthday. In addition to the cupcakes, they enjoyed pizza and a laser-tag. Pictured above: Chris Galya, Jennifer Veal (As The Bell Rings), Skai Jackson, Debby Ryan, Karan Brar, Peyton List, and Cameron Boyce.

Happy Birthday to Marisol Esparza, Allstar Weekend Concert Review, Devon Werkheiser on Clevver TV, New chapter from LOST, Nickelodeon approves new show

July 22nd, 2010

Happy Birthday to Marisol Esparza of The Stunners!

Last night, Allstar Weekend brought their new show to the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis, MN and proved why they’re currently getting a nice push from the suits at Disney. Before the doors even opened, it was apparent that the group has something going for them by drawing a larger crowd than acts that had previously visited the venue, including Honor Society and Emily Osment.

The Fast Track – 26 minutes

Opening the night were Minneapolis locals, The Fast Track. The group plowed through their set of rock edged tunes with a hint of pop and finally struck a chord with the crowd in their second to last song in their seven song set. Ultimately the group served their purpose in getting the crowd warmed up, but even that seemed to take a lot of work.

Best Song: Forget Me
Pros: Lead vocalist Jordan Lyga brought significant energy to the show.
Cons: The group came off as if they were expecting a different audience. Perhaps they’ll be happier playing a gig where they can smoke.

Days Difference – 32 Minutes

While The Fast Track stumbled out of the blocks, Days Difference had no problem tapping into the audience from the get go. On Sunday, this act finished their tour with Jordin Sparks and appeared to be loving every minute of playing to a younger audience. Even with a softer musical approach Days Difference provided something that seemed to be a great compliment for what was to come and the audience didn’t hesitate to follow Jeremy Smith’s cue to sing along to the songs such as Speakers.

Best Song: Radio Song
Pros: Strong live show, Bassist Micah Ricks owned his side of the stage without over shadowing the other members.
Cons: Opening the set with Jeremy Smith sitting down in front of the keyboard. A bit of a disconnect for a rock set. It worked, but could be better.

Allstar Weekend – 45 Minutes

As the lights dimmed Allstar Weekend emerged on stage to Smashmouth’s hit, Allstar. Nathan, Cameron and Michael checked their gear and as the song ended Zach joined them on stage for their first single, Journey To The End Of My Life. It was live, it was loud, and it was fun and the crowd (even a few guys) sang along. After a pause the group thanked opening act, Days Difference and reminded fans that this was the real show (referring to their previous acoustic performances). The group launched into the unreleased track Catching Up, that featured both Nathan and Zac sharing vocals on the synth driven song that has become a bit of their trademark sound. The first two tracks definitely grabbed the crowds attention, but now it was there turn to join in on the fun and they did with Dance Forever. Just about everyone at The Varsity sang the lyrics and jumped to the music (some with a little more rhythm than others). Cameron then took to the mic. to introduce a cover that paid tribute to the year of his dad graduation, 1985. The song worked well and featured one Radio Disney esque edit that included the lyric “She was gonna chew some gum on the hood of Whitesnake’s car”. If anyone could pull off the cover, they’d have to have some character… and Allstar Weekend delivered. Then it was time for a quick photo for Facebook and another unreleased track, Good Day. The song was followed by a highly caffeinated hard edged version of Clock Runs Out. For the first time in the set, the act played two songs back to back from their debut release and it was another sing-along, Hey Princess. Michael and Cameron exited the stage as Nathan and Zach performed two acoustic numbers. The group then encouraged the crowd to enjoy the last two songs, which definitely generated some dancing for The Weekend. Before breaking into that final song, Zach sincerely delivered the lines “it really means a lot to us to be able to come to a place so far away from home and have so many amazing people know about our band. It’s been a dream come true.” Following that up, Cameron promoted the groups SayNow number and while saying the digits, Nathan beat boxed and Mikey added a little kick. It was short and sweet, but served as a reminder of how the guys can make just about anything funny. They closed out the set with the fan favorite, A Different Side Of Me and reminded fans they’d be out shortly to meet with everyone.

A Different Side Of Me

Best Song: A Different Side Of Me
Pros: High energy, fun personalities, and great tunes. Highly recommended.
Cons: Set was a little bit on the short side, although you can’t expect much more from an act that has only released 7 songs.

Clevver TV has a new exclusive acoustic performance by Devon Werkheiser online. Click here to check out the song, Sparks Will Fly.

Have you seen this? It’s a first look photo from the original, brand new 12-minute LOST chapter called “New Man In Charge” which offers a look at what Hurley (Jorge Garcia) and Ben (Michael Emerson) do as the new Island overseers. This bonus feature will be available on both LOST: The Complete Sixth Season and LOST: The Complete Collection which debuts on Blu-ray & DVD on August 24, 2010.
