March 14th, 2012

Yesterday, The Walt Disney Company held their 2012 Annual Meeting of Shareholders in Kansas City, MO. Highlights included a look at Mickey’s roots in Kansas City, A Golden Mickey Award presented to John E. Pepper, Jr. former Chairman of the Board, Bob Iger‘s heartfelt reflection on Steve Jobs, the new trailer for The Avengers in DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 cranked at full volume, clips from Brave, Frankenweenie, Oz: The Great and Powerful, and more! Plus, the announcement of Disney’s new Heroes Work Here program.

Also, worth noting were the following shows that received onscreen visuals when the TV properties were discussed (and which ones weren’t listed).

ABC Family
• Pretty Little Liars
• Switched at Birth

Disney Channel
• A.N.T. Farm
• Jessie
• Phineas and Ferb

As the meeting finished, select music was played as the auditorium emptied. Here’s a look at the complete song selection.

Overall, a great meeting. Attendance felt a little soft based on the location, but as a result it provided a relaxed environment during the Q & A sessions where Chairman and CEO Bob Iger charmed the audience. Perhaps the best moment was when he was asked if he could give everyone a free ticket to Disneyland? He responded with a big smile and stated, “It gets complicated.”

According to early estimates, the soundtrack for Big Time Movie sold approximately 10,000 units last week. That should be enough to get a Top 50 debut. (source: HITS Digital Ventures)

Wow! Check out Stefanie Scott‘s (A.N.T. Farm) great cover of Taylor Swift’s Safe and Sound on YouTube. Former Radio Disney Incubator artist, Keely Marshall is featured on backing vocals.

School’s out, surf’s up and Disney Channel is taking a dip into the teen beach party movie genre with Teen Beach Musical, a modern “no more complications, just good vibrations,” break into song and dance comedy in which surfer girl McKenzie and her boyfriend Brady literally go into a classic surf movie musical where it’s bikers versus surfers — and they’re in for trouble if they don’t back down. While they hatch a plan to get back home to present day, the duo try to blend in as everyone around them spontaneously breaks into song and dance. But when they interfere with the plot of the movie, their fate may be changed forever.

Production has begun in Puerto Rico for a premiere in 2013 as part of the blockbuster Disney Channel Original Movie franchise. Starring are Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally) as Brady, Maia Mitchell (Australia’s Trapped) as McKenzie, Garrett Clayton (Shake it Up) as Tanner, Grace Phipps (The Nine Lives of Chloe King) as Lela, John DeLuca (Wizards of Waverly Place) as Butchy, Chrissie Fit (General Hospital) as Chee Chee, Kevin Chamberlin (Jessie) as Dr. Fusion and Steve Valentine (Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie) as Les Camembert.
