Interview: Ryan Newman – Zeke and Luther

Tommy2: Hey it’s Tommy2 and today we’re being joined by Ryan Newman from Zeke and Luther. Ryan, how are you doing today?

Ryan Newman: Good, how are you?

Tommy2: Good! Now are you excited about the new episodes of Zeke and Luther on Disney XD?

Ryan Newman: I am so excited! We just started filming season two a couple days ago and it’s so nice. It’s like we never left.

Tommy2: Now with these episodes that begin airing today, what are we in store for?

Ryan Newman: You are in store for a lot of cool effects, a very haunted skateboard, and some funny costumes.

Tommy2: Now one thing I always like to know with actors is how they actually relate to their characters. So what in common do you share in with Ginger?

Ryan Newman: Umm… that’s kind of a… not much that Ginger and I share in terms of our personalities. But, I’m definitely not as outspoken as she is and I don’t like playing pranks on people.

Tommy2: So what’s life like on the set with Hutch, Adam and Daniel?

Ryan Newman: Oh it’s so much fun! It’s like I have three older brothers, they’re so great with me. Yet there’s such a big age difference. It’s so nice.

Tommy2: So if you actually had to rate their skateboard skills what do you think you’d give them?

Ryan Newman: They’re all really good, and the all got really good, really fast.

Tommy2: And what about you, do you skate at all?

Ryan Newman: Yes, actually I just started skating a little bit. Because there’s an episode coming up in Season 2 that I get to skateboard.

Tommy2: That’s funny! That’s what I was just about to ask you, I’m like you started skating is that gonna end up on the show?

Ryan Newman: Yes, hopefully!

Tommy2: Now since the premiere on June 15th what’s life been like for you? Do you feel like you’re starting to get noticed at events and stuff like that?

Ryan Newman: Yes, definitely! And just walking around at the mall and stuff, I don’t personally notice it much but my Mom will be next to me and she will be laughing at me because I do not notice when all those kids staring at me and pointing and whispering. So it’s pretty funny.

Tommy2: Not only are you on Zeke and Luther, but occasionally I’ve seen you playing the role as young Miley on Hannah Montana. That’s gotta be pretty cool.

Ryan Newman: Yeah, Miley (Cyrus) is so sweet.

Tommy2: And what was it like actually working with that cast?

Ryan Newman: Oh it was so great because I worked on Monster House with Mitchel (Musso) so it was so great to see him again.

Tommy2: Oh, okay so you already had that connection there.

Ryan Newman: Yeah, we’re great friends. I’ve known him since I was really young.

Tommy2: Could you give us a little bit of your story, like how did you actually get involved in acting?

Ryan Newman: Well, when I was two I started begging my parents to do it. I would like point at the TV and say “I do that, I do that” and then they finally let me when I was three and a half. So it got me to be thinking and then found an agent and started with modeling and commercials and then moved to TV and movies.

Tommy2: And then of course you landed a role for a Disney Channel Movie, why don’t you tell us about that?

Ryan Newman: Well I was in Monster House and Zoom, and Monster House was my first feature film and I was about… I was the youngest kid ever to be motion captured, and I was about five or six and um, yeah that was a great experience. It was just crazy, I mean they put you in this wetsuit that has dots all over it and then put the dots all over your face and glue your hair up into a hat that has dots all over it.

Tommy2: Yeah, and I know that one of your favorite movies is Polar Express. Is that for the same reason because it’s a motion capture?

Ryan Newman: Yeah, I love that and it’s just a great movie. It’s very fun.

Tommy2: As far as what you do when you’re just hanging out and around the house. What type of things are you into? Like what type music you like to listen to, what TV shows you like to watch?

Ryan Newman: Well I watch Disney shows, that’s like all I watch. Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, Suite Life on Deck, all of those types of things and my favorite artist would probably have to be Taylor Swift. I love her, yeah… her music is great!

Tommy2: Good stuff! Well Ryan, we’re definitely going to be looking forward to the episodes of Zeke and Luther especially the ones that start airing tonight. Thank you so much for your time.
