Interview: Malese Jow

Tommy2: What’s up it’s Tommy2 and we’re heading into one hot summer! New music from Demi Lovato and Ashley Tisdale are on the way and today our guest has something in common with both of them. She’s a teen TV star and is also working on her career in music. You’ve seen her as a regular alongside Emma Roberts in Unfabulous in addition to iCarly, Wizards of Waverly Place and The Secret Life of the American Teenager - it’s Malese Jow. Malese welcome!

Malese Jow: Hey Tommy2 what’s up?

Tommy2: Oh, you know and exciting summer how about you?

Malese Jow: Oh I’m so excited for summer I’ve got lots of things going on and I can’t wait to share it with you guys.

Tommy2: Cool, well I’m definitely looking forward to it? You know there are so many concert tours this summer – so on the music front, July is going to be really crazy!

Malese Jow: Oh it’s gonna be insane – concerts are my thing, I can’t wait to hit them all.

Tommy2: Okay, now speaking of busy, you’ve had a insanely busy 2009. Why don’t you tell us what you’ve been up to with your acting this year.

Malese Jow: I did, I actually did a guest cameo on the future movie Aliens In The Attic with Carter Jenkins and Austin Butler so that was really fun. I also just guest starred on the two part episode of Hannah Montana, it’s called He Could Be The One and I play psycho ex-girlfriend Rachel. It was a fun role to play, I love Disney and Miley (Cyrus) is awesome. I’m actually going to be filming a movie next week called You’re So Cupid and that’s starring Jeremy Sumpter. I’m very excited to get started on that. It’s a cute movie, I can’t give too much away cause it’s very new, but I can’t wait to share it with you guys.

Tommy2: Yeah, and I also saw you in Mitchel Musso’s video for The In Crowd. How’d that all come about

Malese Jow: Um yeah I was, it’s so funny. Me and Katelyn Tarver actually met Mitchel randomly in the studio one night. We ended up doing a little background vocals for his new album, which is awesome by the way – little shout out to Mitchel. We became friends, I became friends with his dad. And, you know – friends help friends. He’s like can you guys stop by in the music video and make a little cameo. It was really cool.

Tommy2: Yeah, I gotta mention that I was actually was talking to Mitchel last week and we were talking about too and the one person I forgot to plug was Eddie G. That’s where it all took place right?

Malese Jow: Oh yes, Eddie G. was at the studio. He knows everyone – seriously if you mention Eddie G. to anyone they’re like ‘yeah we go way back’. So that guy, he connects people.

Tommy2: So you’ve been working with him for your music huh?

Malese Jow: I did work with him on one song that you can actually listen to on my MySpace it’s called Go Go, ugh we co-wrote that and I’ve mainly been working with PJ Bianco who is linked to the Jonas Brothers. He does a lot of their stuff, Demi Lovato, so yes, I’m in very good company.

Tommy2: You actually recorded one of his songs that was co-written by Kevin Jonas Sr., is that right?

Malese Jow: I did – yes! Kevin actually hear my voice. I sang for him at one point and he had written this song with PJ Bianco and he found it very suiting for my voice so he said ‘can you sing this and see how it sounds’ and the song is called Where You Belong, which is also on my Music MySpace if you guys don’t know what that is it’s MySpace.com/MaleseMusic so you can check that out – and it was written by Kevin Sr.
