Interview: Jillian Shea Spaeder

Tommy2: What’s up, it’s Tommy 2 and today we’re being joined by Jillian Shea Spaeder, the star of the Disney XD series, Walk The Prank. Jillian how are you?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Great today! How are you?

Tommy2: Good! Now, just a week ago, it was Valentines Day. Did you receive anything special?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Haha, no… just hugs from my Dad.

Tommy2: Hey, that’s better than nothin’ right?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Oh yeah, definitely.

Tommy2: Gotta love Dad.

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Oh yeah.

Tommy2: Now let’s start off with where you started seeing a possible future in acting and what lead you to go on out to LA?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Well, I originally was just a singer. So, I came to a singing competition in Hollywood where I met my manager. I didn’t really know that I wanted to act because all I had done was theater before. But then I just decided to give it a try and then it just kind of happened.

Tommy2: Okay, from there you met a manager in the singing competition. How’d that go from there to ending up with your role on Walk The Prank?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Well, my manager suggested that I would come out for two months to try to audition for a bunch of shows. So I came out February and March about two years ago and I auditioned for about 30 auditions and then I auditioned for my role on Walk The Prank.

Tommy2: Okay, so that’s been a long two months, huh?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Yeah, it was long two months. Definitely.

Tommy2: And you’re still there. That’s great! Now, let’s talk about the show. How’d that all come together with you coming on the set and meeting the others?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Well, we all met during the auditioning except for one actor Bryce (Gheisar). He was auditioning over FaceTime with the producers. So we all met and from the minute we all got to shooting the pilot we were all best friends.

Tommy2: Now outside of the show are you guys pranksters yourselves?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Sort of, we all kind of pranked a lot when we were little. I used to do the lotion on the toilet seat prank, but now it’s all on the set mainly.

Tommy2: So you were a natural for the part then?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Yeah, pretty much.

Tommy2: Okay, now what’s is your favorite Prank from the show?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: My favorite prank is actually in Season 2, so you’re going to have to to watch. But in Season 1 my favorite is in episode where I got to be loopy in the mall and act like I just got back from the dentist. So, it was really fun. I got to be so crazy.

Tommy2: Right, and now I know you can’t say much about Season 2, but was there much of a change from Season 1 to what we’re going to see in Season 2?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Yes, there’s a little more drama and Disney is allowing us to be scarier, so some of our pranks got taken up a notch.

Tommy2: Alright, we’ll have to look forward to that. Now, I could help… going through your resume and notice that you’ve done some training with John D’Aquino who’s a familiar face on Disney. What kind of things have you been learning from him?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Every time I get an audition I go an train with John. He’s amazing, he’s been on Disney before so he always helps me to kind of get in the mindset of Disney shows and how it all works. Yeah, he’s amazing.

Tommy2: And one other thing I noticed on your resume was that you’re able to do Australian and British accents. So since we’re all into improv here and everything, I figured I’d ask you why don’t you choose one of those accents and then tell us about the last movie you saw.

Jillian Shea Spaeder: (In British accent) Okay, that sound good. So, that last movie I saw was Hidden Figure with my friend and my mom. Except it was very late at night so, I fell asleep. And they enjoyed it very much and when I woke up after the movie they said, Oh that was amazing. And I was like yeah, that was great, except I was half asleep and it was really weird.

Tommy2: Bravo! Very good.

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Thank you so much!

Tommy2: Now you’re also very involved with music like you said at the very beginning. You said, I was just a singer. Where are you at with music in terms of with your career and everything?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Right now, oh… I’m still talking in British. I’m currently working on some original songs and practicing.

Tommy2: And we’re just going to have to check out Instagram to catch your latest?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Yes, my Instagram is @JillianSheaSpaeder and I post lots of videos on there and my Musical.ly is @Jillian.Spaeder and I post more singing on there and I also have a YouTube channel.

Tommy2: So you still have big plans for the future in terms of music?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Yes, definitely! I’m hoping to bring out an album at some point soon. I have a few original songs right now that I’ve been working on.

Tommy2: And what artists inspire you these days?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Oh, Tori Kelly! I love Tori Kelly so much. She’s amazing.

Tommy2: Okay, and I know something very important to you is the charity Children International. Can tell us more about that?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Children International is a charity that my sister and I have been supporting since we were little. You can sponsor children to help them with education and housing and all of that. My sister actually ran a summer camp where she raised money for them for a few years. It’s a very great charity. We sponsor children from there and Equador. It’s amazing.

Tommy2: Oh, so you’re very connected with this. You’ve been doing this for awhile then?

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Yeah, my parents and I.

Tommy2: That’s great to hear, great story. Jillian, thanks so much for taking the time out of your schedule to talk today and we wish you the best and look forward to Season 2.

Jillian Shea Spaeder: Thank you.
