Tommy2: What’s up, it’s Tommy2 and today we have Olivia Holt from Disney XD’s “Kickin’ It” returning with us to share about the Disney Channel Original Movie “Girl vs. Monster” that premiers tomorrow, October 12th. Olivia, it’s great to have you again.
Olivia Holt: Thank you for having me again, I’m so excited.
Tommy2: Long time definitely, huh?
Olivia Holt: (Laughter)
Tommy2: Now why don’t you share with us what this new movie is all about?
Olivia Holt: Well, “irl vs. Monster” is an incredible film, I had such an incredible experience working on it and it’s basically about my character Skylar who finds out on Halloween that she’s a fifth generation monster hunter and what happens is on Halloween she really wants to go to a party that one of her biggest crushes is throwing, and her parents won’t let her go. So, she has to stay home and she ends up sneaking out of the house, but on accident she accidentally releases all of the monsters her parents and her ancestors have gotten over the years, and there’s this one monster that’s out for revenge and it’s just one crazy Halloween night that her and her friends have to kind of save. Save the Halloween Day and just you know have a good time. It’s basically all about facing your fears, which I think is pretty cool.
Tommy2: And it sounds like a perfect movie for October.
Olivia Holt: Absolutely! So much fun Halloween things going on.
Tommy2: When I first saw the preview clips the first thing that got my attention was the props in the film. What was it like to work with all those crazy weapons?
Olivia Holt: It was actually so cool to me, I never worked with all the weapons and gadgets that they had given me and I think that was actually most of favorite props in the movie was all the gadgets that I had to hear and I thought that was really neat, and the way that they put them together. I felt really cool with them on too, I never wanted to take them off when we left. When we wrapped in the day they were like “okay Olivia, give us your gadgets” and I’m like, “but I don’t want to.” So, that was really fun. The gadgets in the movie were really cool.
Tommy2: Now between “Girl vs. Monster” and “Kickin’ It” – you’re definitely portrayed as quite the active girl. Does this reflect you in real life?
Olivia Holt: Actually, I’ve been pretty athletic. I did gymnastics growing up and I did cheerleading and you know I love sports and my family is all about sports as well. Being athletic and doing these kind of things ties into everything that I do on the show or you know doing in films and I think it’s really cool and it’s something that I’d like to keep doing.
Tommy2: And now your somewhat of a hunter.
Olivia Holt: That’s right! Some kid of monster hunter I guess?
Tommy2: Yeah! Now… were you familiar with Luke Benward before working on this movie?
Olivia Holt: I was familiar with his work. I’d never really met him before the movie, but he’s an incredible guy. Like, just in general, I love Luke, he’s so much fun to work with and he so talented, and his families great as well.
Tommy2: Yeah, it’s been fun seeing him over the years with “How To Eat Fried Worms,” “Minutemen” and “Mostly Ghostly.” The one thing that gets me now is seeing how much he’s grown up – that guys gotten big.
Olivia Holt: He has! Like, I remember watching all the movies that he did like “How To Eat Fried Worms” and “Minute Men” and funny story actually – I had the biggest crush on him in “How To Eat Fried Worms” and when did the film, I ended up telling him that and he was just laughing so hard, he was like “I can’t believe that” and I was like “yeah, it’s embarrassing.”
Tommy2: Okay, now when it comes to scary movies are you a big fan?
Olivia Holt: I love scary movies, I love anything scary.I could walk into haunted houses and I just love being scared. I love that adrenaline rush and you know, being in like a scary like… I think I would love to just walk into a haunted house and stay there forever just because scary stuff is so much fun to me.
Tommy2: Do you have any favorite movies you could share?
Olivia Holt: I am a big “Paranormal Activity” fan (laughter). I actually met one of the characters in “Paranormal Activity” not to long ago and I was like blabbing on about how much I love those films because they’re so intense and scary and I love things like that.
Tommy2: And getting back to things Disney, is there a favorite segment in the Haunted Mansion that you always look forward to seeing?
Olivia Holt: In the ride, I love the cemetery, like I love going through the cemetery when all the little creatures are popping up behind the tombstones. I think that’s really cool, I think that’s really fun.
Tommy2: Some how I knew you were going to say that.
Olivia Holt: You did? (Laughter) It’s the best!
Tommy2: And before we finish this up, would you mind sharing with us how much has your life changed since you landed the role as Kim on Kickin’ It?
Olivia Holt: That’s right, my life has changed so much in a good way, like the best way possible. I grew up in a small town in the south and now I’m out in California living my dream with people that I absolutely love to work with. Like on “Kickin’ It” – I love my cast and they’re all so talented and I love my crew, they’re all so hard working and you know doing “Girl vs. Monster” was such an incredible experience and I’ve made some life long friends on that film. Just you know, being out here in general has made me so happy and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
Tommy2: Alright, it looks like we’ve covered it all. Olivia, thanks so much for taking time out of your day to talk with us about “Girl vs. Monster.” Have a good day and… stay true to the Wasabi Code.
Olivia Holt: Thank you! Thank you so much… you too!
