Tommy2: How’s it going, it’s Tommy2 and tonight Pair of Kings kicks off its third season on Disney XD and we’ve got Kelsey Chow here to talk with us about it. Kelsey how are you doing?
Kelsey Chow: I’m doing well, how about you?
Tommy2: I’m doing terrific. You know It’s a been a year since we talked last and Pair of Kings just keeps plugging along and tonight it’s the start of Season 3 on Disney XD. So what things can we look forward to in the new season?
Kelsey Chow: Yeah, Season 3 is flying by, I can’t believe it. And there are big changes on Kinkow, especially one called Adam Hicks. He comes in as the long lost brother of Brady and Boomer and with that comes new adventures and him adapting to the island and having a new brother and then also my character as well becomes more of a friend to them, more than a babysitter.
Tommy2: So he’s not going to be a new boy on the island that you’re going to have to kiss?
Kelsey Chow: No, actually not to much. Actually, Mikayla reminds him of an ex-girlfriend that broke is heart. So it’s an interesting dynamic there’s no Boz/Mikayla love.
Tommy2: One thing you’re really big into is fashion, it seems like over the years that Mikayla’s wardrobe on Pair of Kings has become a little bit trendier. Will see more of that in season 3.
Kelsey Chow: Oh it’s incredible – honestly, I’m so impressed with Mikayla’s wardrobe and a lot of fans like it as well which is really great cause are wardrobe team and costume designer, they work really hard and come up with really cool outfits. Especially the neon trend is big in Season 3.
Tommy2: And what’s the one costume that you’ve had on the show that you actually wanted to take home?
Kelsey Chow: You know, with each season I’ll admit I’ve sneaked home a couple of things. I can’t resist, and maybe my sister as well. But yeah, we really work together to create these outfits and I can’t help but kind of fall for quite a few of them.
Tommy2: And you’ve pretty much got the same characters, in addition to Adam. How has it changed from Season 1, to Season 2, now to Season 3 working on that set with that cast?
Kelsey Chow: It’s really a wonderful thing that we’ve created. If you come on set it’s very laid back, and it’s very open. And it’s such a great group of people because it’s a very encouraging atmosphere I would say, and it allows us to be creative and come up with new story lines and be crazier and be quirkier. So I’m really, really lucky, they are my home away from home, my TV Family. I’m really lucky to play Mikayla and work with all of them.
Tommy2: And just kind of going through the cast, how much are the characters like themselves in real life. Are they a little bit or a lot or none at all?
Kelsey Chow: I would say they range, you know there are bits and jokes even that I think translate into our real lives, but I’d say it’s different for each character. Lanny and Ryan (Ochoa) are very dissimilar, Geno (Segers) and Mason are actually pretty similar I would say.
Tommy2: So stay away from Geno.
Kelsey Chow: Exactly, he means business.
Tommy2: After the premiere tonight, Disney XD will be showing off the new music video for Non-Stop Summer which you’re featured in. That looked like a lot of fun.
Kelsey Chow: Absolutely, yeah! I’ve seen it, it’s really cool – most of it is in slow-motion. And yeah, a bunch of us, we got together and shot in Malibu and just had a great time. It’s our very own Adam Hicks who’s featured in the song, and we had a great time at the beach doing some activities and just having a great time.
Tommy2: Are there any fun behind the scenes stories you can share? I know some people ended up getting a little messy and wet.
Kelsey Chow: Oh absolutely! We had a huge water balloon fight. And to have people like Ryan (Ochoa) and Leo Howard, and all of them involved… it’s gets real messy.
Tommy2: Now you mentioned Leo there from Kickin’ It. Do you guys co-mingle much with the other shows on Disney XD?
Kelsey Chow: Absolutely, you know we do a lot of things with each other. I just worked with Kelli Berglund (Lab Rats) in Hawaii actually, at the Aulani Resort and it’s really nice. I worked with Olivia (Holt) in Florida, it really is… they try to create a family environment and that is what it really is.
Tommy2: And of course it’s good to have more girls on Disney XD, you’re not the only one now.
Kelsey Chow: It is… I no longer stand alone. It is nice!
Tommy2: Next month, you have another big date coming up and it’s July 3rd, which is the release of the film, The Amazing Spiderman. I’m sure you can’t say much about it, but can you tell us anything about your character in it?
Kelsey Chow: I can tell you that if you blink you could miss me (laughter). You know, I was very lucky to take a day of work off from Pair of Kings and work in one scene with Andrew Garfield and he’s an incredible actor. And it was an incredible experience, I feel very lucky, but I do… I’m very, very tiny and minuscule in the movie.
Tommy2: Okay, but if we… a blink is probably 24 frames, so that’s actually… that’s not too bad, right?
Kelsey Chow: Thank you so much. Thank you!
Tommy2: So how about instead of saying a blink, how about saying I have 24 frames in the film right?
b>Kelsey Chow: Exactly, lets all rephrase it.
Tommy2: That’s right! Go with the bigger numbers. Now I was just over at IMDB and I haven’t seen you listed as a name yet, but the name they have you listed as is “Hot Girl” – have you seen that?
Kelsey Chow: Yeah, I have… ahhh…. I’m flattered. (Laughter)
Tommy2: Is that your first time being the Hot Girl in the film.
Kelsey Chow: (Laughter) I guess so!
Tommy2: Now what was that like to transition from TV to walking on the set of a film?
Kelsey Chow: Well you know, I really would like to learn more. I worked on a couple of independent films during the hiatus of Pair of Kings as well and it’s been a really cool transition. I have much more to learn and I want to do more films in the future absolutely.
Tommy2: Yeah, you mentioned that. Also this summer you’ll be in the indy release – The Wine of Summer? What’s that going to be all about?
Kelsey Chow: Yeah, The Wine of Summer. I remember reading the script last time this year and I couldn’t put it down. It’s a beautiful, beautiful story about a young man who kind of rediscovers himself and travels to Spain to do it, so it’s not to shabby. But yeah, I was really, I was so happy to be a part of it. It’s just a beautiful story and the director has such passion and soul that’s very apparent in the movie and an incredible cast too. To work with them is so cool.
