Interview: Roshon Fegan

Tommy2: How’s it going, it’s Tommy2 and dropping with today, we’ve got Roshon Fegan. So how are you doing man?

Roshon Fegan: I’m doing good man, feeling real good.

Tommy2: That’s good! Now this past week, it was revealed that you’d be featured on the cast of Dancing With The Stars – Season 14. So, what type things fell in to place to put you on that show?

Roshon Fegan: You know, it’s a lot of great things that happened to get me on there. You know, I became really good friends with the producers, they became fans of mine from when I was hanging out with my buddy Cody Linley that did a previous season. And Kyle Massey’s also a good friend of mine too, so you know they knew about me, they wanted me on the show. I couldn’t do it, I was shooting Camp Rock for Disney Channel and they were just like, we’ll keep you in mind and I’ve always been excited about it, I love to dance and stuff. So this year they were like, hey we would love to have you on if you have time and of course that’s an offer you can’t refuse.

Tommy2: Yeah, that’s definitely great that everything fell back in to place for you considering that you were on the radar with them already.

Roshon Fegan: Right, right, and the timing was impeccable, so I’m very thankful.

Tommy2: Which is definitely… sometimes doesn’t always work out in the business, right?

Roshon Fegan: No it doesn’t. Honestly you know it was even hard this time cause on top of this I’m still shooting my show Shake It Up.

Tommy2: Crazy!

Roshon Fegan: Yeah, this is craziness man, it’s craziness. And on top of that I’m still recording my album and mixtape that I’m working on. So it’s going to be quite a year man, quite a year!

Tommy2: And they’ve got you doing interviews too huh?

Roshon Fegan: Yeah, and interviews, exactly! I just left People magazine this morning so, I’m all over man, I’m all over.

Tommy2: I just happened to see you in the new People magazine and they actually gave you a high ranking for the show.

Roshon Fegan: Oh, you saw me in People magazine?

Tommy2: Yeah!

Roshon Fegan: Well, I’m liking the high ranking man. I’m taking that and running with it. I’m hoping that that actually is the truth and not just people talking about it.

Tommy2: Alright now, about how long did it take for all these things to fall in place, like when you got the confirmation, and was it hard to keep it a secret?

Roshon Fegan: Yeah, it was quite a secret that was hard to keep bro. It was, about a month ago or two months ago I knew. I couldn’t tell anyone, couldn’t let it out and basically my family and the people I’m working with – my team knew. But it’s something hard that you want to tell everybody. But I’m the kind of guy that likes the element of surprise, so it wasn’t to much of a big deal. I was just ready to let everybody know when the date was right.

Tommy2: Now based on your past work, it’s clear you definitely have a solid dancing background – why don’t give the full rundown of when you started dancing and what type dancing you’ve studied?

Roshon Fegan: Well, I’ve never really studied dancing. You know, I’ve always been a freestyle kind of guy with everything I do. Freestyle dancing, Hip Hop and a little bit of everything is just how I role. And you know, I’ve been doing it all my life since I was like watching Michael Jackson at 10 and 11. So Freestyle and Hip Hop is probably what I know best, but it’s going to be quite a little journey when it gets down to doing like Ballroom and Rumba and Salsa and Fox Trot. All that stuff is a whole nother animal. So,I’m ready for it, but hopefully my background with Freestyling gives me a little advantage maybe.

Tommy2: And lets talk about your new instructor that you have – Chelsie Hightower. What’s it like to be working with her?

Roshon Fegan: You know Chelsea’s real cool man, she’s the youngest out of the whole group and I’m the youngest out of the group, so it’s cool that we’re paired up as the youngest, you know. And we get to represent our generation as the youth, and it’s sweet cause she gets to you know, kind of vibe with me and understand, and even knows where I’m coming from when I’m doing certain things with certain dances and all that. So it’s a real nice combo.

Tommy2: Now what’s something you’re really looking forward to about being on Dancing with the Stars?

Roshon Fegan: I think it’s awesome that I just get to kind of branch out from being on the Disney Channel show. That’s great, I love being on Shake It Up, but I think it gives me the opportunity to be seen in a different light. You know, to kind of reach different demographics and show the world what I’m about and who I am than rather just my character. I do a lot of music, I produce my own music. So, it’s also giving me a chance to show my music off to the world too, and show them this is what I do. So it’s exciting man. It’s exciting to learn the dance moves you know, kind of stay fit and active besides just being on a show and in the studio all day. I get to do some fun stuff you know.

Tommy2: Now were there any members in the Season 14 cast that you were excited to actually meet?

Roshon Fegan: Yeah, yeah man… Gladys Knight. She’s huge, she’s a legend, that’s unbelievable to share the same floor with her it’s really and honor. And you know I love Jaleel (White), he’s amazing you know, he’s a cool guy. I’m picking up a lot from him just to be in his presence as well. He’s someone that’s been in the business longer than I’ve been living so, you know it’s crazy. It’s crazy to be around all these great people.

Tommy2: Are you prepared for all of the special costumes and time in the make up chair that come with the show?

Roshon Fegan: You know that’s going to be a trip. I just tried on my Cuban heels the last rehearsal and, Cuban heels are no joke man, they are no joke. I don’t know how lady’s wear heels but they’re not even like, there not even from this planet. I don’t know who came up with the idea.
