Interview: Kara and Katelyn Pacitto

Tommy2: Hey it’s Tommy2 and joining us today… on Valentines Day we’ve Kara and Katelyn Pacitto from the ABC comedy, Suburgatory. So how are you doing today?

Kara Pacitto: Oh we’re doing good.

Katelyn Pacitto: How about you?

Tommy2: Oh, doing good myself. You guys got any big plans for the day?

Kara Pacitto: Well, we are really big bakers.

Katelyn Pacitto: We love baking.

Kara Pacitto: So we’re going to be baking cake pops and heart shaped cookies.

Katelyn Pacitto: It’s our one day one day where we go all out on baking. Valentines Day!

Kara Pacitto: Besides Christmas.

Tommy2: Obviously, I’m sure you two get plenty of questions about being twins. What’s the one thing that you like to do that is the opposite of your sister?

Katelyn Pacitto: Kara hates driving and I actually love driving.

Kara Pacitto: Well, Katelyn is really into fashion and clothes and I feel like I kind of follow whatever she picks out. So she’s more into fashion than I am.

Tommy2: And what are your favorite things that you guys like to do together, aside from the baking that we just talked about.

Kara Pacitto: We love going to the beach and hiking.

Katelyn Pacitto: Going to movies.

Kara Pacitto: Going to movies, we just… we’re best friends so we do almost everything together and basically anything, we’re always together and we just love hanging out and just doing stuff. We’re just best friends. We love doing everything together

Tommy2: Any good movies you guys (have) seen recently?

Katelyn Pacitto: Um.. we saw…

Kara Pacitto: We saw Man On A Ledge and that was really good. I highly recommend that movie, it was very suspenseful and I loved it.

Tommy2: You know when you guys were growing up as twins, were there any twins that you two looked at as role models.

Kara Pacitto: We loved Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Katelyn Pacitto: We’re obsessed with like their…

Kara Pacitto: Everything they did.

Katelyn Pacitto: Like their movies. We would have…

Kara Pacitto: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Sleepovers!

Katelyn Pacitto: Sleepovers

Kara Pacitto: Birthday parties.

Katelyn Pacitto: So they were basically like the only twins that I ever knew growing up and we loved Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Tommy2: Did you guys ever do Halloween as them?

Katelyn Pacitto: Yeah, actually we did.

Kara Pacitto: In high school we did chose their grungy version of them.

Katelyn Pacitto: And people, cause we grew up around L.A. The suburbs around L.A., so people didn’t really get that we were dressing you know for Halloween. They thought it was just a normal outfit we were wearing, but… yeah, that was really fun getting to dress up as them.

Tommy2: Now you both started your careers at a very early age, at what point did you start to decide that acting could be a career path?

Katelyn Pacitto: Well, we did it when we were babies, and we got back into it when were like 18. And, first it was Kara who like brought it up again when we were about 16. She goes I want to do acting again.

Kara Pacitto: And I had to convince Katelyn to do it. Because she wanted nothing to do with it.

Katelyn Pacitto: And I didn’t think that would be a wise career choice. And then we just started auditioning and started. Luckily, we booked a couple of things. So that gained our confidence and we were actually like “oh wow,” we actually could see ourselves doing this you know for the rest of our lives. So we fell in love with it and we’ve been doing it every since.

Tommy2: Now lets move on to Suburgatory. Why don’t you give us a quick rundown of the show and the characters you play in it?

Katelyn Pacitto: I play Kaitlin.

Kara Pacitto: And I play Kenzie.

Katelyn Pacitto: And we are the mean girls, the popular girls…

Kara Pacitto: The popular girls who are best friends with Dalia.

Katelyn Pacitto: And she’s…

Kara Pacitto: The Queen Bee…

Katelyn Pacitto: The Queen Bee of the school and we’re her little followers.

Tommy2: The minions.

Katelyn Pacitto: Yeah, her minions. So, the main character, her name is Tessa Altman and her and her dad George are like…

Kara Pacitto: from New York City.

Katelyn Pacitto: And they’re city people and he decides this isn’t a good place for her to grow up. So he decides to move her to the suburbs, and he’s a single dad, and she’s kind of like a fish out of water. She doesn’t like, you know like the fake plastic country club type people from the suburbs. And throughout the season she’s faced with having to deal with these people and how ridiculous she thinks they are. But towards the end of the season, they start growing on her and she actually starts loving them.

Tommy2: The one thing that I enjoy about the show is the way they characterize the people in the suburbs as overtly trying to be trendy and hip, when they’re not. Especially with the dialogue they use.

Katelyn Pacitto: Yeah, it’s like an exaggerated version of what it’s really like in the suburbs. Our first episode, the whole conversation was just in acronyms, like – OMG, BRB, TTYL. That was the whole scene, that was an exaggerated version. I’ve never… we grew up in the suburbs, but we’ve never heard that kind of conversation, but it was pretty funny to do that.

Tommy2: Out of the cast, who do you get along with the most?

Kara Pacitto: We get along with most everybody. We love everybody on the cast, but Rex is hilarious and we were big Entourage fans, so…

Katelyn Pacitto: He plays Mr. Wolfe, the guidance counselor

Kara Pacitto: and we actually happened to be, we really became friends with Abbie Cobb, she’s the other… she plays Kimantha.

Katelyn Pacitto: She plays Kimantha, she’s our other friend, other minion on the show.

Kara Pacitto: But we became really good friends with Abbie.
