Interview: Leon Thomas – Victorious

Tommy2: Hey, it’s Tommy2 and checkin in with us today, we’ve got Leon Thomas from Nickelodeon’s new smash hit – Victorious! So Leon, how you doin?

Leon Thomas: I’m doing just fine Tommy, how are you?

Tommy2: Doing good man, we got some good weather here and got the summer just around the corner huh?

Leon Thomas: Oh yeah oh yeah! Yesterday I actually went for a bike ride. It was real good.

Tommy2: Oh yeah, what type of bike do you got?

Leon Thomas: It’s like one of those foldable bikes. It’s actually kind of small, but I love riding it. But I got a flat yesterday, so I gotta take it in and get it fixed.

Tommy2: Well see the good thing about that is that you can fold it up and walk to the store right?

Leon Thomas: Exactly, and actually Nickelodeon got it for me so you know it’s really all good.

Tommy2: So you definitely get some perks with that job huh?

Leon Thomas: Oh man, I love Nick. It’s like we was a big family. They hook you up on Christmas and your birthday and they’re so loving man. I love Nickelodeon.

Tommy2: Okay, now one thing I wanted to congratulate you on the success of Victorious, to date you guys have had the number #1 rated for your demo for every episode it’s aired.

Leon Thomas: Wow! Thank you so much, I didn’t even know that. It’s just so amazing to see that the people really love this show and are supporting it and watching it when it comes on and I mean it just really puts a big smile on my face because you know while we were doing the show I honestly thought it was just so funny and I’m just glad that the rest of the world you know feels the same.

Tommy2: And of course in the show you’re Tori’s best friend and you’ve written all her music so without you, the show’s nothing right?

Leon Thomas: Haaaaa! You know we really need everybody in the show of course to be what it is, but I’m just glad I’ve been given the position of you know one of her best friends on the show so you, you know you really get to see us bond throughout the season and you know we just have such a great time. It’s a true blessing.

Tommy2: So what things do you share in common with your character Andre in the show?

Leon Thomas: Well you know I mean, me and Andre both really love music. He’s a songwriter and I’m a songwriter as well and you know and he plays a bunch of instruments and I play a couple instruments myself and the only thing I say that we have different is that I think Andre’s a lot cooler than me. Like I wish I was as cool as Andre man. He’s a pretty cool guy.

Tommy2: So what you’re saying is when he’s going down the street on his bike, no flats?

Leon Thomas: Oh, no flats. Never, never, never. He just fly’s cause he’s that cool.

Tommy2: So what type of music are you into when you’re not on the show?

Leon Thomas: I’m such a fan of the 80′s. I’m like such a huge Prince fan. I’m also into a lot of rock, I like Kings of Leon, I like Modest Mouse. I like hip hop too. I like A Tribe Called Clash. And I mean I’m like a real old head, all of my music is pretty much old school, but I like a couple of todays artists.

Tommy2: Going back, you have a short history of working with Nickelodeon, so what led up to you getting your role on Victorious?

Leon Thomas: Well I started on Nickelodeon, it was funny, it was on this sitcom called Just For Kicks and that was on for like a couple of episodes and it really didn’t make it that far. And then I did a TV show, a little kids TV show called The Backyardigans where I played the orange moose, Tyrone and I was singing on that for about two seasons. And then I did iCarly, Just Jordan and Naked Brothers Band because Nickelodeon just put me on those shows and her I am on Victorious, so I’m just very excited man.

Tommy2: So far we’ve only seen a handful of episodes, can you give us just a hint of what we can look forward to in the future with Victorious?

Leon Thomas: I mean honestly you can look forward to some great music, you can also look forward to a bunch of life. I mean this show to me as the episodes go forward I mean it’s just funny. The gags, the things that go down, I mean you’re just looking forward to a lots of laughs. We had a great time.

Tommy2: And of course you mentioned the music. I know there’s a soundtrack coming out at the end of the season. Are you going to be part of that at all?

Leon Thomas: Oh yes I am. A song I wrote is actually ending up on the show so you know, that will be on the soundtrack, and I’m really just excited to let people hear what I can do.

Tommy2: What’s that song called?

Leon Thomas: Song To You
