Danielle Campbell

August 31st, 2011

Tommy2: What was it like to walk the red carpet at the Prom premiere?

Danielle Campbell: That was such an unreal experience. It was amazing! It was so exciting to be in front of all the fans and in front of all the photographers. It was a blast.

Tommy2: Were you nervous on the red carpet?

Danielle Campbell: Luckily, I had a lot of my family and friends there, so it felt really good. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was really exhilarating. I had a great time at the premiere.

Tommy2: What did you think of your character’s wardrobe in Prom?

Danielle Campbell: The costume designers worked really hard to find clothes that fit in with our characters. My character in Prom is a girl named Simone and she is very free-spirited, so she wears a lot of loose and flowing outfits. I love Simone’s wardrobe in the movie. It’s very, very pretty.

Tommy2: How does your personal sense of style differ to Simone’s?

Danielle Campbell: Simone is very girly, so she wears feminine clothing that are colorful and bright, like her blue prom dress in the movie. However, I’m not as girly as Simone. I loved wearing her clothes, but she’s into cute skirts and dresses – and I’m more into jeans.

Tommy2: Has your sense of style changed since you worked on the movie?

Danielle Campbell: My personal style is still developing and it’s going to grow with me as I get older. At the moment, I live in the Midwest and I’m really jeans and T-shirts – but I also like to dress up every now and then. I’m more into earthy colors and relaxed clothing, which is why I love jeans and T-shirts. They are really comfy.

Tommy2: Who is your fashion icon?

Danielle Campbell: I love Blake Lively. I think she’s stunning and I really admire her sense of style. She’s very classy and she carries herself really well, but she also takes a lot of risks in fashion. I love that about her. I’d love to have her sense of style.

Tommy2: Do you think of yourself as a fashionista?

Danielle Campbell: I wouldn’t call myself a fashion expert. Maybe I’ll get there one day, but not right now. Fashion is fun and I’m learning about it all the time, but I’m no expert.

Tommy2: What one item should every girl have in her wardrobe?

Danielle Campbell: I think it’s really important to know that you don’t need to follow every trend in fashion. Wear clothes that you feel comfortable in and wear outfits that make you feel good. Personally, I think a good pair of jeans is essential in everybody’s wardrobe – but that’s it. You don’t need tons and tons of clothes.

Tommy2: What’s your fashion obsession at the moment?

Danielle Campbell: I’m a huge fan of boots. I love them! And I am also into the combat look right now. I love green army jackets and military boots. I think it’s a really cool look.

Tommy2: What’s your favorite fashion item hanging in your wardrobe?

Danielle Campbell: That’s a tough question! I guess my favorite thing right now is a combat jacket that I bought recently. I really, really like it, but I’ve also got a new leather jacket that I love as well. They are probably my two favorites at the moment, although it’s too hot to wear them right now.

Tommy2: Why are you such a big fan of jackets?

Danielle Campbell: I love jackets because they are very versatile. You can wear them in a bunch of ways. Sometimes I wear a smart jacket with jeans to dress up the look. Other times, I wear a military jacket with a dress to make a girly outfit look a lot more edgy.

Tommy2: How much do you enjoy shopping for clothes?

Danielle Campbell: I get a little bored if I shop for too long. It’s fun every now and then – but not all the time. It can be quite frustrating when you can’t find the perfect outfit.

Tommy2: What advice do you have for kids who are struggling with fashion?

Danielle Campbell: Shop around to find outfits that suit your body and your shape, but also make sure that you feel comfortable with whatever you choose. Have fun trying on different outfits to find the style that you adore.

Tommy2: What other fashion tips can you share?

Danielle Campbell: I think it’s really fun to look through fashion magazines to find out about new trends. Fashion is fun, but you don’t have to break the bank to look good. Celebrities might wear a lot of designer outfits, but you can always find cheaper versions at the mall.

Tommy2: What’s the hottest fashion trend right now?

Danielle Campbell: I know a lot of lace is coming in, as well as bright colors. I am a big fan of neon because I think it’s really fun and bright. I don’t wear a lot of bright colors, but it’s fun to add some colorful accessories to jazz up an outfit.

Tommy2: What’s your favorite accessory?

Danielle Campbell: I love leather bracelets because I think they look really cool. Oh, and instead of wearing just one necklace, I have two necklaces that I wear every single day.

Tommy2: Let’s talk about beauty, Danielle… What are your top beauty tips?

Danielle Campbell: Ever since I was very little, I’ve always worn a lot of sunscreen because you only have one face and you’ve got to take care of it. I clean my face every morning, and then I apply sunscreen. That’s all I do every day.

Tommy2: What other beauty secrets can you spill?

Danielle Campbell: It’s important to drink a lot of water and get a lot of sleep if you want to keep your skin clear and pimple-free. Water flushes all of the bad stuff out of your skin, but it’s also a good idea to eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. Keep yourself healthy if you want healthy skin!

Tommy2: What’s your makeup style?

Danielle Campbell: I don’t wear a lot of makeup, but I love mascara and eyeliner. I find that they really brighten up your eyes. I love playing with earthy eye shadows, too. That’s my favorite coloring right now, but it doesn’t work for everyone’s skin.

Tommy2: Where did you learn about makeup?

Danielle Campbell: I learned a lot about makeup through my work as an actress. I ask a lot of questions to the people who do my hair and makeup on set. My mom does her makeup really beautifully, so I’ve learned a lot from her as well. I really enjoy experimenting with makeup. It’s fun.

Tommy2: Can you tell us any makeup tips?

Danielle Campbell: If you walk into a makeup store, you’ll see there are 500 different brushes for sale. Well, that’s because there are lots of different makeup styles and different ways to apply makeup. There are also hundreds of different colors to any makeup. Experiment and find the color that suits your skin. Have fun with it, and don’t be scared to ask advice from the girls on makeup counters at the mall. That’s what they are there for!
