On Friday, Arbitron made history by receiving the ratings from its new Portable People Meter. In the past, people that were surveyed filled out a diary based on what they listened to. With this new technology they just wear a device that records their listening habits to create ratings. One big change is that now they will be measuring people 6 and older (in the past they only measured those 12 and up). This new measurement could put a lot of pressure on Radio Disney who previously blamed their poor ratings on the fact that their ‘audience’ was measured. In fact in most markets their ratings are so low they can’t even be accurately measured. So what happens now when their scores are too low to be measured? One things for sure, it won’t be good for business.
Earlier this week, American Idol launched a two-night, star-studded extravaganza to help fight poverty in the U.S. and Africa. On Wednesday night, the contestants were joined by an incredible lineup of celebrity guest stars, including Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, Earth, Wind & Fire, Josh Groban & the African Children’s Choir, Il Divo, Quincy Jones, Annie Lennox, Rascal Flatts, and Carrie Underwood. For a limited time, you can get audio and video downloads of these performances, plus bonus content from the show. This exclusive music is available only on iTunes and all net proceeds go to the Charity Projects Entertainment Fund. To check it out, click here.
